A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle reveals what most Canadians already knew. We will apprehend and detain American tourists if they try to break our laws. The article lists the top 10 cities where Americans were arrested and the city of Toronto ranked a solid #6.

Unlike in America, here in Canada laws are enforced at all times. Foreigners have been attempting to break our laws for years but they are usually apprehended and forced to pay for their crimes. Americans are generally good people. They believe in God and they despise terrorism, however, some of them are rotten criminals. Even though Americans are our neighbours it's important to remember that they're still foreigners so we must be vigilant and keep an eye on them.

American tourists wind up in Canadian jail cells for various reasons. Some of them are litter bugs. We like to keep our streets clean and most Canadians have enough sense to hold on to their garbage until they come across a garbage bin. Unfortunately, most foreigners aren't as considerate and simply throw their garbage on the street. As a result, many of these litter bugs are thrown in jail.

The number 1 reason why American tourists wind up in Canadian jail cells is because they attempt to use U.S. currency to pay for Canadian products. In the past, we generally let them use U.S. currency since it was worth more than Canadian currency but now that the U.S. dollar is worth just slightly more than the Mexican Peso, we can't allow them to use their worthless money in Canada. Accepting worthless currency is a slippery slope. If we were to accept U.S. currency we would then have to consider accepting Monopoly Money as well. This is simply not acceptable in a civilized society.

Americans take note; when visiting Canada do not attempt to hoodwink Canadian merchants by using American currency. Any attempt to litter our cash registers with U.S. dollars or Monopoly Money will land you in jail. Proceed with caution.
